Evaluation Question 1

Evaluation Question 1
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms of coventions of real media products?

Example and Description
Explanation how it uses/develops, / challenge forms and conversations.
Title of film
The title of our film is ‘It never happened’ This is developing on typical film titles as it uses the text message sent that is a key point of the film as it is when they decide to keep their murder a secret. You can also tell from it that it suggests something is being covered up and relates to the thriller genre. E.G. ‘I know what you did last summer’ is also a film in which an important line of the film is used as the title.
Setting/location
Our film is set in the woodland which is not challenging the genre as many murders in films happen in forests as they are in remote locations and nobody will see. However as they run out the forest there is a sign showing that there is operating CCTV camera in the area suggesting that someone may have seen and that they might get caught.  For example the film 'Severance' there is murders that take place within the forest, also the 2011 film 'Cabin In The Woods' set place with murders occurring.
Costume/Props
Both Billy and Matt who were the murderers were wearing simple typical UK working class teenager cloths, with Matt wearing a hoody and dirty jeans and Billy wearing a coat and some chinos. They both also had old dirty trainers on. We are not challenging the age stereotype or usual convention a good example of how they dress is 'Attack the Block'. The murder weapon is however not a typical murder weapon such as a knife, gun or household object but is a broken street sign found in the woods and used on impulse. For example in the 2011 Thriller two men try to murder the main character with a gun.
Genre
The genre of our film will be a drama/thriller which revolves around this murder. However unlike conventional murder based films the film is not based around trying to solve and find the killer. Our film will follow the murderers and showing how they deal with what they have done. For example 'Se7en' is based around two police men trying to figure out who is murdering all these people.
Camerawork/Editing
The editing throughout our opening follow convention with the beginning being at a slow pace as it is quite with just a body. It also follows convention when the boys start running away as their is fast quick cuts to suggest action. We also use a range of different shots none of them being challenging to the genre or scene.

  1. I like the way you have laid out your answer - a good format. It needs images from your production as well - can you add these?
